The paper titled “Advances in ground improvement using waste materials for transportation infrastructure” authored by Indraratna, B., Qi, Y., Tawk, M., Heitor, A., Rujikiatkamjorn, C., & Navaratnarajah, S. K. won the ‘Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya’ award for best two overseas papers by Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), UK. The award was presented at ICE Awards Ceremony in London on 13th October 2023.

The award & certificate was presented at the IESL lnduction and Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, August 31st, 2023 at the Main Hall of the BMICH, Colombo.

Three Minutes (3MT) Thesis Competition- Bronze Medal
Ms. S. Venuja, a Ph.D. candidate of DCE, won the Bronze medal (2nd runner-up)
in the prestigious “Three Minutes Thesis” (3MT) competition held on 20/06/2023, organized by the Young Scientists' Association of the National Institute of Fundamental Studies
(NIFS). The study is being carried out under a grant from AHEAD.

IABMAS Spaghetti Bridge Competition
IABMAS Spaghetti Bridge Competition organized by The International Association for Bridge Maintenance and Safety - Sri Lanka Group in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka - Young Members Section (YMS) and Civil Engineering Society, University of Peradeniya.
7 universities ,11 teams , competing to bring glory to their university. Join with us to witness the most competitive competition of the year
The spaghetti bridge competition has, and will always be one of the most exciting and thrilling events marked in the event calendar.
Thanks to IABMAS who organized this competition, in collaboration with IESL YMS and CES of the University of Peradeniya, we were able to experience not just a competition, but various ways of bridge constructions as well. The competition was held at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, with the presence of teams from six different universities island wide.
The awarding ceremony of the competition was held on the 18th December at the ICSBE Kandy Conference 2022. Winners were awarded with exclusive prizes and tokens of appreciation were presented to the Judge Panel. With the presence of members of IABMAS, representatives from IESL, CES of University of Peradeniya and the winning team members, the awarding ceremony appeared to be a grand function.

Award for the Best Paper Presented at Annual Sessions - 2022 of the Society of Structural Engineers, Sri Lanka
The paper titled “Effective Supplementation of Biochar in Alkali-activated Slag Production” authored by Ms. Harshani Egodagmage (UoP-RMIT PhD student), Dr. Hiran Yapa, Dr. Samith Buddika, Dr. Kate Nguyen (RMIT), Dr. Sathees Kumar Navarathnam (RMIT) won the Professor S.R. De S. Chandrakeerthy Award for the “Best Paper” presented at the Annual Sessions-2022 of Society of Structural Engineers, Sri Lanka.
The formal presentation of the Gold Medal and certificates took place on 13th December 2022 at the Cimnnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo.

A paper titled "Comparative Study of the Wind Codes: An Application to Forty-Six Storied Wall-Frame Structure"
by Eng B Kiriparan, Eng (Dr) J A S C Jayasinghe, and Eng (Dr) U I Dissanayake received the IESL AWARD - 2022 for Best Paper by a Corporate Member - in the Journal "Engineer" during the session 2021/22.
It was awarded in the Inauguration Ceremony of the 116th Annual Sessions held on 14-10-2022.

Prof. J. J. Wijetunge of the Department of Civil Engineering has won the National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Award – 2017 under the category of Engineering Sciences, Architecture and ICT for his research work on numerical modelling and mapping of coastal impact of storm surges in Sri Lanka. He will be awarded a plaque, a certificate and a cash prize at the Awards Ceremony to be held on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the National Science Foundation this year (2018).

On 20 July 2017, the project “Mitigation of Pollution at Kandy Lake and Mid-Canal, Sri Lanka” has been awarded the Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award (PEAA) by the Institute of Engineers, Singapore (IES). The project was a collaboration between UOP’s Faculty of Engineering and the Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute (NEWRI, Singapore). Prof. Shameen Jinadasa, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering was the project’s Principal Investigator.
