The Faculty of Engineering offers a four-year full-time programme leading to the degree of the Bachelor of the Science of Engineering Honors (BScEngHons)
The BScEngHons curriculum underwent a major revision in 2024 and as a result, the streaming to specializations was changed from the 2nd semester to the 1st semester. The changes are effective from the E22 batch. The revised programme comprises of the common first semester and remaining 7 semesters for specializations in one of the following, where the capacities in each specialization are indicated in parentheses:
- Chemical & Process Engineering (30)
- Civil Engineering (150)
- Computer Engineering (100)
- Electrical & Electronic Engineering (110)
- Mechanical Engineering (50)
- Production Engineering (45)
Streaming into fields of specializations is based on student preference as well as performance in the first semester.
Each academic semester is normally made up of 14 weeks of teaching, a one-week study leave and a two week-long end-of-semester examination. The evaluation of performance of a student in each course is carried out through continuous assessments and an end-of-semester examination. The medium of instruction at the Faculty of Engineering is English.
The programme is administered according to the Rules and Regulations relating to the Degree of Bachelor of the Science of Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Peradeniya. Summary of the programme is given in the undergraduate program handbook. The Faculty Handbook issued every year provides full details of the programme in the respective year.
