Course Aim: To impart knowledge on fundamentals of disaster management including the origin, occurrence, and mitigation of natural and man-made hazards, and to emphasize the importance of sustainable development and planning for disaster risk mitigation. Intended Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of the course, the students should be able to; ➢ explain elements of disaster management, the disaster management cycle and the importance of sustainable development. ➢ describe the origin, occurrence and mitigation of natural and man-made hazards. ➢ appraise and analyze the compounding and multi hazard scenarios. ➢ assess hazard, vulnerability and risk of a disaster event and formulate a disaster risk mitigation plan. ➢ demonstrate and communicate disaster risk mitigation plans to the stakeholders. |
