Course Aim: To impart knowledge on sustainability concepts in design and construction of buildings.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of the course, the students should be able to;

➢    discuss the key components of sustainability in design and construction of buildings.

➢    appreciate the GreenSL certification process and associated concepts.

➢    design buildings conforming to sustainability standards.

➢    design modifications to existing buildings to improve their sustainability.

Course Content:

➢    Introduction: Introduction to sustainable built environment and GreenSL rating system

➢    Global environment issues

➢    Thermal environment conditions for human occupancy

➢    Water efficiency, wastewater treatment and rain water harvesting

➢    Green energy

➢    Indoor environmental quality and sick building syndrome

➢    Recycling and reuse of waste

➢    Landscaping for green buildings

➢    Rectification of existing buildings: Issues and solutions

➢    Industrial case studies
