Course Aim: To impart knowledge on project planning principles and planning resources for a construction project.
Intended Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of the course, the students should be able to; ➢ execute resources allocation, resource leveling and network crashing for a civil engineering project. ➢ generate a construction schedule for a construction project using a critical path method. ➢ apply inventory control theories in construction projects. ➢ demonstrate the estimation of outputs, allocation of construction equipment for complex operations involving fleet matching and maintenance planning. |
||||||||
Course Content: ➢ Advanced Planning Techniques and resource analysis: Principles of project planning and scheduling, critical path analysis, precedence diagrams, program evaluation and review technique, linear scheduling techniques, allocation of resources and resource leveling, network crashing, construction planning process, project progress monitoring and cost control. ➢ Critical path analysis for a real-life construction project. ➢ Material management: Introduction to material management, material requirements at construction sites, basics of inventory control and terminology, economic order quantity theory, finding optimum order quantities for fixed demand, variable demand and under quantity discounts as applied to construction projects. ➢ Construction equipment management: Output estimation using cycle time approach, output estimation using formulae, complex operations involving multiple equipment, fleet matching, basic maintenance practices. |
