Course Aim: To impart knowledge on concepts used in planning and performing a complete engineering survey under normal and special conditions.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of the course, the students should be able to;

➢    plan and perform land surveys and leveling

➢    interpret survey maps and compute details necessary for engineering applications.

➢    apply theory of errors to adjust the surveying measurements

➢    select appropriate engineering survey techniques for special conditions

➢    identify advanced surveying techniques and apply them to interpret GIS maps

Course Content:

➢    Plane surveying: Chain surveying and traversing; Use of theodolite and total station

➢    Leveling: Control leveling; Detailed leveling; Contour surveys; Tacheometry; Cross sections; Longitudinal sections; Area and volume calculations

➢    Geodetic surveying: Applications of geodetic surveying; Triangulation

➢    Errors in measurements: Accuracy of measurements; Adjustments using theory of errors

➢    Setting Out: Horizontal control; Vertical control

➢    Surveying in special conditions: Hydrographic surveys; Underground surveys

➢    Advanced surveying techniques: Aerial surveys including drone surveys; Interpretation of GIS maps and satellite images; Applications of GPS data for surveying
