A Research Seminar on "Geopolymers and Some of Their Applications" by Dr. M.C.M. Nasvi will be held on 24th February 2021, from 2.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. at EOE Pereira Theatre, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya
Geopolymer is an alumina-silicate cementitious material, which can be synthesized by mixing source material (fly ash, metakaolin, slag, etc.) with a strong alkaline solution (combination of NaOH and Na2SiO3). Geopolymers have attracted recent attention as they possesses excellent acid resistant characteristics, show higher mechanical strength and durability, demonstrate lower permeability, experience little shrinkage, have lower production cost, and possess higher pumpability compared to ordinary Portland cement. In this research seminar, based on presenter's expertise, application of geopolymers in the following three areas will be presented: (i) Blended fly ash - rice husk ash geopolymers, (ii) Flow and mechanical behaviour of geopolymer based well cementing for carbon capture and storage wells and (iii) Geopolymers as soil stabilizers.
