A team of talented civil engineering students from the University of Peradeniya participated in the Seismic Performance of Building Model Competition 3.0 (2025), held at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand.
The competition brought together bright minds from across the region to design and test innovative structural models for earthquake resilience. Our students — U.L.N.T. Bandara (E/19/044), D.H. Gallehewa (E/19/112), J.A.D.R.A. Jayakody (E/19/150), R.M.T.D. Wijayarathne (E/19/442), and H.M.P.B. Ariyaratne (E/19/027) — demonstrated exceptional skill, teamwork, and creativity in developing their building model under real seismic testing conditions.
We also acknowledge the guidance of Dr. J.A.S.C. Jayasinghe, Department of Civil Engineering.
We congratulate the team for representing Sri Lanka and showcasing the academic and technical excellence of the University of Peradeniya on an international platform.
The Department of Civil Engineering comprising three main divisions, viz., Material and Structural Engineering, Hydraulics and Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering offers a broad spectrum of courses in the Civil Engineering Specialization as well as in the General Programme and in the other Specializations in the Faculty of Engineering.
The department offers postgraduate programmes in five areas of specialization. These include taught programmes, viz., PGDip
(by coursework), MEng, MScEng and MSc as well as research leading to PGDip (by research), MPhil and PhD.
The academic staff of the department together with their undergraduate and postgraduate students are involved in a diverse range of research covering a broad spectrum of topics.
Such research is mostly designed to address requirements of the civil engineering practice and the industry.
