The Department of Civil Engineering proudly hosted the Prof. Nimal Seneviratne Award Ceremony with the esteemed presence of the dean of the Faculty of Engineering – University of Peradeniya, the head of the Department of Civil Engineering, academic staff, and students.
The event featured an inspiring keynote speech by Prof. J.J. Wijethunge, insightful research presentations by students, and the prestigious award for the best research contributions. It was a remarkable celebration of academic excellence and innovation in civil engineering.
The Department of Civil Engineering comprising three main divisions, viz., Material and Structural Engineering, Hydraulics and Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering offers a broad spectrum of courses in the Civil Engineering Specialization as well as in the General Programme and in the other Specializations in the Faculty of Engineering.
The department offers postgraduate programmes in five areas of specialization. These include taught programmes, viz., PGDip
(by coursework), MEng, MScEng and MSc as well as research leading to PGDip (by research), MPhil and PhD.
The academic staff of the department together with their undergraduate and postgraduate students are involved in a diverse range of research covering a broad spectrum of topics.
Such research is mostly designed to address requirements of the civil engineering practice and the industry.
