Aim(s)
To introduce sustainability concepts in design and construction of buildings.
Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the students should be able to;

  1. Demonstrate the key components of sustainability in design and construction of buildings.
  2. Design a building conforming to sustainability standards.
  3. Rectify an existing building to improve its sustainability.
  4. Apply GreenSL certification process and associated concepts in sustainable built environment.

  1. Introduction to sustainable built environment and GreenSL rating system
  2. Global environment issues
  3. Thermal environment conditions for human occupancy
  4. Water efficiency, wastewater treatment and rain water harvesting
  5. Green energy
  6. Indoor environmental quality and sick building syndrome
  7. Recycling and reuse of waste
  8. Landscaping in green building technology
  9. Rectification of existing buildings: Issues and solutions
  10. Industrial case studies
