University of Peradeniya Shines at TECHNO 2026

The University of Peradeniya, represented by the Faculty of Engineering, recorded a notable achievement at Techno 2026, the national engineering and technology exhibition organized by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL). The exhibition provided a platform for universities, industry and the wider public to engage with engineering innovations and practical solutions.

Held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) from 16 to 18 October 2026, the exhibition featured twelve projects from the Faculty of Engineering, demonstrated to industry representatives, schoolchildren, and the general public. The displays highlighted the application of engineering knowledge and creativity to practical problems and provided opportunities for interaction with visitors and stakeholders.

Gold Award for outstanding engineering universities projects

The University of Peradeniya received the Gold Award in the category identified on the trophy as “Best Display of Outstanding Engineering Universities Projects”. The recognition acknowledged the University’s exhibition among the university displays at Techno 2026. Through the twelve projects presented, the Faculty of Engineering demonstrated students’ ability to apply engineering principles, innovation, and problem-solving skills to real-world challenges

Central Province team wins Agritech Startup Spark 2026

A team representing the Central Province, with participation from the University of Peradeniya, secured first place in Agritech Startup Spark 2026. The team received a cash prize of LKR 200,000 and certificates. The IESL Young Members Section (YMS) organized the initiative to encourage technology-based responses to practical challenges faced by farming communities.

The initiative brought together students from the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Agriculture at the
University of Peradeniya, who, with support from the Department of Agriculture, jointly developed and submitted project proposals to address agricultural needs. The proposals were first considered through a preliminary selection process at the University. IESL then advanced the selected proposals to a national-level selection, from which outstanding projects were chosen for presentation at Techno 2026.

The initiative illustrates the value of interdisciplinary collaboration: agricultural knowledge helps identify farming communities’ needs, while engineering expertise supports the development of technological solutions. The winning team received sponsorship support from HNB, Deep Tec and Keells.

Faculty team places third in Skyward Challenge 3.0

A team representing the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, also secured third place (Second

This achievement further demonstrated the University’s student teams’ ability to compete and contribute in technology-focused challenges.

A collective achievement

The University’s achievements at Techno 2026 reflect the dedication and hard work of its students, academic staffand non-academic staff. The contribution of the IESL Student Chapter, together with the support and coordination of the University and IESL, was central to the successful presentation of the projects and the recognition received. These accomplishments reaffirm the Faculty of Engineering’s commitment to nurturing innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and engineering solutions that respond to the needs of society.
