Admission to the Faculty of Engineering is subjected to the government policy on the university admission. At present, 455 students are admitted to read for the degree of the Bachelor of the Science of Engineering Honors (BScEngHons) program at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya.

The minimum requirements are three passes at the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE/AL) examination in the following subjects:

• Combined Mathematics
• Physics
• Chemistry

The selection of students to the faculty is done by the University Grants Commission (UGC) based on the merit order of the average Z-score obtained by candidates at the GCE/AL examination and district quota system.

The Bachelor of the Science of Engineering Honors (BScEngHons) program at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya is a four-year academic program spanning eight semesters. Starting from the E22 batch, the program begins with a common first semester, followed by seven semesters in a field of specialization.

The curriculum includes a mandatory Industrial Training course with a total duration of at least 24 weeks. Each standard semester typically lasts 14 weeks, and the full program may be preceded by a 6–10 week Foundation Program.

The volume of learning is measured in course credits. One course credit is equivalent to 15 hours of lectures. An hour of tutorial work, demonstrations, small-group discussions, or two hours of practical classes is equivalent to one lecture hour.

Following the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF), one credit corresponds to 50 notional learning hours. For industrial training and research projects, one credit is equivalent to a minimum of 100 notional hours.

Semester Workload

• Regular Semester: 18 credits (Nominal) / 24 credits (Maximum)
• Short Semester: 9 credits (Nominal) / 12 credits (Maximum)

Course Categories & Completion

Courses are divided into Core Courses and Elective Courses. Electives are further categorized into Technical Electives (TE) and General Electives (GE).

To be awarded the degree, a student must earn a minimum of 150 credits. While the nominal duration of the program is 4 years, students are permitted a maximum of 8 years to complete all requirements.
