E78 Alumnus Eng. Lanka Pannila Donates 100 High-Performance Computers to the Faculty of Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, gratefully acknowledges the generous contribution of Eng. Lanka Pannila, an alumnus of the Faculty from the E78 batch, currently residing in the United States of America, who has donated 100 high-performance desktop computers to the Computer Center of the Faculty.

This significant contribution will further strengthen the Faculty’s computing infrastructure and enhance the opportunities available to its students and researchers. A major portion of the donated computers will be utilized in the newly establishing Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratory of the Faculty, supporting advanced computing requirements for AI-related education, research, innovation, and interdisciplinary projects.

The donated computers will also be used to expand and modernize the computing facilities available to undergraduate students. In particular, the enhanced computing capacity will provide students with improved access to modern Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and engineering software tools, which are increasingly essential for contemporary engineering education and professional practice. The facilities will support students in developing their design, modelling, simulation, programming, and computational skills across a wide range of engineering disciplines.

The donation comes at a significant time as the Faculty continues to modernize its academic and research infrastructure and strengthen its capabilities in emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Systems, digital engineering, computational design, and advanced engineering applications.

The Faculty deeply appreciates Eng. Lanka Pannila’s commitment to supporting his alma mater and his generous contribution towards the advancement of engineering education and research in Sri Lanka. Such initiatives by alumni exemplify the strong and enduring bond between the Faculty and its graduates and demonstrate the important role that the global Peradeniya Engineering alumni community can play in shaping the future of engineering education.

The Faculty of Engineering extends its sincere gratitude to Eng. Lanka Pannila for this valuable contribution and looks forward to transforming this generous donation into enhanced learning, innovation, and research opportunities for the next generation of engineers.
