E72–75 Batch Donates Advanced Energy Storage System to the Faculty

The E72–75 batch of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, has donated a state-of-the-art grid-connected energy storage system comprising a 60 kW hybrid inverter and a 100 kWh battery energy storage system. The project was implemented by SLAM Power (Private) Limited, which also made a significant contribution towards the donation.

The system was formally handed over to the Faculty on 7 August 2026 at a ceremony held at the Faculty of Engineering. The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya as the Chief Guest and the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) as the Guest of Honour, together with members of the academic and administrative staff and distinguished alumni of the E72–75 batch.

The newly installed system has been integrated with the existing 60 kW grid-connected solar PV system, which was donated by the Asian Development Bank in 2014 through the SLSEA. The integration of the solar PV system with the new battery energy storage system and hybrid inverter has created an advanced AC microgrid, representing one of the most modern energy systems within the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya.

The system is expected to provide uninterrupted power to the computer servers of the Faculty’s Computer Center, thereby enhancing the reliability and resilience of its critical digital infrastructure. It will also serve as a vital power infrastructure component for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratory, which is currently nearing completion.

This generous contribution by the E72–75 batch is a significant investment in the Faculty’s digital and research infrastructure and demonstrates the enduring commitment of its alumni towards strengthening the Faculty’s capacity for advanced teaching, research, innovation, and technological development.
