Civil Engineering students (E/20)- field trip to explore irrigation systems
On July 5, 2025, third-year Civil Engineering students (E/20) in the CE317 Field Work course embarked on an educational field trip to explore irrigation systems, with support from the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka and the Irrigation Department.
The group toured the Randenigala Dam, studying its operations and spillway mechanisms, and visited the Minipe Anicut, where they observed irrigation structures like aqueducts, siphons, and canal networks along both banks, gaining practical insights into their design and functionality. Guided by Dr. Panduka Neluwala, Mr. S.A.T.U. Senevirathna, Ms. Nimasha B.D., and Ms. Nisanka P.A.H., the students engaged in technical discussions that bridged theoretical knowledge with real-world applications in water resource management and hydraulic structure design.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Mahaweli Authority, Irrigation Department, and our dedicated faculty for making this enriching experience a success.
