The Pioneer in Civil Engineering Education in Sri Lanka

The Department of Civil Engineering (DCE) at the University of Peradeniya, established over 75 years ago, is the oldest and one of the most prestigious civil engineering schools in Sri Lanka. Each year, approximately 450 students are admitted to the Faculty of Engineering to pursue the bachelor’s degree, with around 150 choosing to specialize in Civil Engineering. In addition to delivering the specialized civil engineering program, the department also conducts foundational first-semester courses for all engineering undergraduates and offers civil engineering modules for other engineering disciplines.

The Civil Engineering Society (CES) is a vibrant student organization in the Faculty of Engineering. It provides opportunities to build leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills through seminars, guest lectures, technical visits, community service, and social events. CES also connects students with the industry and alumni network.

Hands-On Learning

Civil Engineering students gain real-world experience through field activities like field camps, site visits, and internships. The program emphasizes applied learning, with students taking part in design challenges such as the Spaghetti Bridge Competition, model-making, and research exhibitions, fostering creativity and technical excellence beyond the classroom.
