Invention Competition For Housing And Construction 2025 Provincial Housing Department Central Province.

The central provincial housing department, under the guidance of the central provincial department of road development, has organized the Invention Competition for Housing and Construction 2025,in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, the central province department of education, and the provincial engineering service department. The competition is aimed at school students and vocational trainees in the central province. The objectives of the competition are to discover new methods in construction, identify alternatives to conventional construction materials, enhance equipment or tools used in construction, create innovative construction models, and promote these innovations to advance construction-related technology and encourage new inventions. The Department of Civil Engineering, University of Peradeniya, contributed to this competition in many ways. A series of introductory sessions was conducted by the academics of the Department of Civil Engineering. The first session was conducted at the EOE Pereira Theatre of the Faculty of Engineering on 25th June 2025, with the participation of about 400 students from schools in the Kandy district. This event was graced by Prof. Lilantha Samaranayake, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Kushan Wijesundara, Head, Department of Civil Engineering, Commissioner of Housing, Central Province, Secretaries of Ministries of the Central Province, academics, and school teachers. The resource personnel for this session were Prof. Nadeeshani Nanayakkara, Dr. Samal Dharmaratne, Dr. Supun Jayasinghe, and Dr. Panduka Neluwala. The 2nd session was conducted for vocational trainees of the Nuwara Eliya district at the Technical College, Nuwara Eliya, on 07th July 2025. The resource personnel of this session were Prof. Chaminda S. Bandara, Dr. Samal Dharmaratne, and Dr. Supun Jayasinghe. The 3rd session was conducted by Prof. Chaminda S. Bandara, Prof. M. C. M. Nasvi, Ms. Abirami Thuraisinghem, and Mr. N. Subakethan at Highland College, Hatton, for school students of the Nuwara Eliya district on 14th July 2025. The 4th session was conducted by Dr. Samal Dharmaratne and Dr. Panduka Neluwala on 18th July 2025 at the Aruppola Technical College for vocational trainees of the Kandy District. The 5th and final session was conducted at the Science College, Matale for both school students and vocational trainees of the Matale district on 21st July 2025. The resource personnel for this session were Prof. Kushan Wijesundara, Prof. Nadeeshani Nanayakkara, Dr. Jayalath Edirisinghe, and Dr. Supun Jayasinghe.The applications for innovations were opened from 21st July 2025. The winners of the competition will be awarded with prizes and certificates, the innovations will be supported for possible commercialization, and will be brought to the Jubilee Exhibition EngEx2025 of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, to be held from 23rd to 27th September 2025.
