FIELD VISIT TO THE CENTRAL EXPRESSWAY PROJECT BY
E19 CIVIL ENGINEERING STUDENTS

A field visit was made by the E19 Civil Engineering students to the Central Expressway project (near Rambukkana) on 02.12.2023. The students were able to witness numerous and exclusive structural engineering applications including: post-tensioned beam construction; prestresssing of post-tensioned beams; temperature controlled concrete batching; underpass construction; pipe-cooled concreting; etc. The visit was hosted by the MAGA Engineering (Pvt) Ltd and the planning was exceptional. The lunch was also provided by the host. Prof. H.D. Yapa, Dr. A.J. Dammika and Dr. (Ms) C. Chandrasiri joined the visit as the academic staff. Director Roads and Bridges, Eng. G.V.S.K. Kumarasiri provided an outstanding support from MAGA Engineering to organize the visit.

For Undergraduates

Undergraduate programme civil engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering comprising three main divisions, viz., Material and Structural Engineering, Hydraulics and Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering offers a broad spectrum of courses in the Civil Engineering Specialization as well as in the General Programme and in the other Specializations in the Faculty of Engineering.

For Postgraduates

Postgraduate programme civil engineering

The department offers postgraduate programmes in five areas of specialization. These include taught programmes, viz., PGDip (by coursework), MEng, MScEng and MSc as well as research leading to PGDip (by research), MPhil and PhD.



 

Research Areas

Research Area civil engineering

The academic staff of the department together with their undergraduate and postgraduate students are involved in a diverse range of research covering a broad spectrum of topics. Such research is mostly designed to address requirements of the civil engineering practice and the industry.
