The undergraduate research project "A Comparative Analysis of Multinomial Logit (MNL) and Nested Logit (NL) Modeling Approaches for Mode Choice Decisions" by Vidurangana R.L.N. (E/17/361) and Vindyani H.A.R.N. (E/17/363), supervised by Dr. Samal Dharmaratne, won the Best Paper Award at the 10^th International Symposium on Advances in Civil and Environmental Engineering Practices for Sustainable Development (ACEPS - 2024). The symposium was conducted on June 27, 2024, at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, Galle.

The paper titled “Advances in ground improvement using waste materials for transportation infrastructure” authored by Indraratna, B., Qi, Y., Tawk, M., Heitor, A., Rujikiatkamjorn, C., & Navaratnarajah, S. K. won the ‘Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya’ award for best two overseas papers by Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), UK. The award was presented at ICE Awards Ceremony in London on 13^th October 2023.

Ms. S. Venuja, a Ph.D. candidate of DCE, won the Bronze medal (2nd runner-up) in the prestigious “Three Minutes Thesis” (3MT) competition held on 20/06/2023, organized by the Young Scientists' Association of the National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS). The study is being carried out under a grant from AHEAD.

Thanks to IABMAS who organized this competition, in collaboration with IESL YMS and CES of the University of Peradeniya, we were able to experience not just a competition, but various ways of bridge constructions as well. The competition was held at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, with the presence of teams from six different universities island wide.
The awarding ceremony of the competition was held on the 18th December at the ICSBE Kandy Conference 2022. Winners were awarded with exclusive prizes and tokens of appreciation were presented to the Judge Panel. With the presence of members of IABMAS, representatives from IESL, CES of University of Peradeniya and the winning team members, the awarding ceremony appeared to be a grand function.

The paper titled “Effective Supplementation of Biochar in Alkali-activated Slag Production” authored by Ms. Harshani Egodagmage (UoP-RMIT PhD student), Dr. Hiran Yapa, Dr. Samith Buddika, Dr. Kate Nguyen (RMIT), Dr. Sathees Kumar Navarathnam (RMIT) won the Professor S.R. De S. Chandrakeerthy Award for the “Best Paper” presented at the Annual Sessions-2022 of Society of Structural Engineers, Sri Lanka.

The formal presentation of the Gold Medal and certificates took place on 13^th December 2022 at the Cimnnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo.

Eight academic staff members of DCE received ‘Faculty Research Excellence Award'/ 'Certificates of Commendation for Research Excellence' at the Research Excellence Awards Ceremony for 2018, 2020 and 2022 held on 11^th November at the EOE Pereira Theatre.

A paper titled "Comparative Study of the Wind Codes: An Application to Forty-Six Storied Wall-Frame Structure" by Eng B Kiriparan, Eng (Dr) J A S C Jayasinghe, and Eng (Dr) U I Dissanayake received the IESL AWARD - 2022 for Best Paper by a Corporate Member - in the Journal "Engineer" during the session 2021/22.

It was awarded in the Inauguration Ceremony of the 116^th Annual Sessions held on 14-10-2022.

Many congratulations to Mr NWAR Yasintha (E/15/409) of the Department of Civil Engineering for winning the award and certificate under the Civil Engineering category of The Migara Rathnatunga Trust Awards for Industrial Training for university undergraduates -2020/21 from among all engineering faculties in the country. The award will be presented at the forthcoming IESL Induction Ceremony to be held at the BMICH. We also wish to congratulate Miss SRMAKD Rajapaksha (E/15/414) and Miss AAD Sandamali (E/15/322) of the department for receiving merit certificates in the civil engineering category.

The following members Eng. T. Gunawardhana, Eng. B. Balakrishnan and Dr. Chamindu Deepagoda received the award for the Best paper in theoretical/methodological improvement at the recent Technical Conference of the Yong Members' Section (YMS) of the Institution of Engineers of Sri Lanka (IESL).

On July 14, 2021, the Faculty Board conferred the Distinguished Achievements of the following six Members and the Honors of the Department of Civil Engineering.

The President's Awards for Scientific Research 2018 was held on 6^th April 2021 as a virtual event. The following members of the department of civil engineering received the award in the virtual ceremony.

The paper published in the Engineer: Journal of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka on the title of "Correlation among Index Properties, Strength and Compressibility Parameters of Peat Soils in Muthurajawela Region of Sri Lanka" authored by Eng. T. Chenthan and Eng. (Miss.) S. Sharuja co-authored by Eng (Dr.). M.C.M. Nasvi has been selected for the SD&CC award - 2020.

The paper "Nonlinear Numerical Simulation of the Seismic Response of the Kotmale Dam" authored by Eng. B H M M Herath Co-authored by Dr. K K Wijesundara, and Eng. A R M H B Amunugama presented at the Annual General Meeting held on 25th August 2020 has been selected as the Best Paper presented at the Annual Sessions 2020 from a three-staged evaluation Process and been entitled to the Raghu Chandrakeerty Gold Medal 2020

The undergraduate research project on "Feasibility of Using Geopolymers to Stabilize Expansive Soil" carried out by S. Kanjana and S. Sajithithijan under the supervision of Dr. M.C.M Nasvi won the "Joint first award" at the Sri Lankan Geotechnical Society (SLGS) project day 2020 held on 23rd December 2020
