Course Aim: To provide a sound knowledge on engineering concepts in the field of irrigation and drainage engineering.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of the course, the students should be able to;

➢      describe principles and processes necessary to manage water resources effectively through well designed drainage and irrigation systems.

➢      apply appropriate techniques and analysis for the selection of low cost irrigation methods.

➢      evaluate and recommend water delivery systems including the preparation of irrigation water schedules.

➢      conduct designs for irrigation and drainage systems in agricultural fields.

Course Content:

➢      Planning of Irrigation and Drainage Projects: Project identification; Feasibility studies; Implementation and operation; Intensification of existing irrigation systems; Participatory development; Sustainability aspects of irrigation

➢      Water Requirements/Delivery Systems: Crop water requirements; Irrigation water requirement; duty, base and delta; Soil salinity and leaching requirements; Land preparation

➢      Methods of Water Supply: Continuous system; Rotational system; Supply on demand
