Biography
Prof. Nasvi currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Peradeniya (UoP), Sri Lanka. He earned his BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering with First Class Honours and three awards from UoP in 2009, and completed his PhD in Geotechnical Engineering at Monash University, Australia in 2014. Following his PhD, he worked as a casual research officer at Monash University from October 2013 to March 2014. Since joining UoP in 2015, Prof. Nasvi has expanded his research across various areas, including geopolymers, problematic soils, geopolymer-based soil stabilization, mix optimization for geopolymer concrete and soil stabilization, slope stability analysis, and the flow and mechanical behavior of well cement. He leads several ongoing Master’s and PhD projects and has secured multiple local research grants. With over 60 journal and conference publications covering his broad research interests, Prof. Nasvi has successfully supervised three PhD candidates, one MPhil, and seven Master candidates. He has received several prestigious accolades, including the Tier 4* Research Award 2024 under the Transparent Research Performance Scheme (UGC Circular 05/2018) from the UoP, the Support Scheme for Supervision of Research Degrees (SUSRED) Award 2022/2023 from the National Science Foundation, and the Faculty Research Excellence Awards in 2018 and 2020 from the Faculty of Engineering, UoP. He serves on the editorial boards of several journals and regularly reviews for high-quality journals. His administrative roles have included: Coordinator of the Joint PhD Programme between RMIT, Australia and UoP (Sep 2018 – Mar 2024); Lecturer In-Charge of the Geotechnical Laboratory at UoP (Nov 2020 – Dec 2024); Coordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at the Faculty of Engineering (Mar 2016 – Sep 2021); and Coordinator of the Postgraduate Programme in Geotechnical Engineering at UoP (Jan 2016 – Oct 2020).
