On successful completion of the course, the students should be able to;

2. Describe the principle of operation and construction of dc and ac machines.
3. Describe basic speed control techniques applicable to ac and dc motors.
4. Design a wiring system for a domestic or a commercial building to meet requirements of IEE wiring regulations

1. AC circuits : Phasors, j-notation; the concept of impedance; analysis of ac circuits; power factor improvement; Mutually coupled circuits; ac bridges; Analysis of balanced three phase systems; measurement of power in three-phase systems
2. Electrical machines : Torque and emf; commutator action; DC machines; rotating magnetic fields; three-phase windings; synchronous and induction machines
3. Motors and control : DC motor speed control; AC motor starting and speed control; single-phase motors; motor selection and application
4. IEE wiring regulations and building wiring systems
