Biography:

Prof. K.A.S. Susantha is a professor in the Department of Engineering Mathematics, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. He obtained his B.Sc.Eng. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, in 1993. Thereafter, he worked in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Peradeniya as an engineering instructor, and at the Irrigation Department of Sri Lanka as an irrigation engineer for a brief period.

He obtained his Master of Engineering degree in Structural Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, in April 1996. From 1996 to 1998, he worked for about two years as a structural engineer at a leading structural engineering design firm in Bangkok, Thailand.

In 1998, he commenced his doctoral studies in Structural Engineering at Nagoya University, Japan, and was awarded a Doctor of Engineering (D.Eng.) degree in 2001. Following this, he joined the Aichi Institute of Technology in Toyota, Japan, as a postdoctoral research fellow, where he worked until 2005.

He joined the Department of Engineering Mathematics at the University of Peradeniya as a senior lecturer in 2006 and currently serves in the same department as a Professor.

His research interests include the investigation of the seismic behavior of concrete and steel structures such as buildings, bridges, and elevated water tanks; capacity prediction of concrete-filled steel columns used in elevated highway structures; investigation of sloshing effects in liquid-filled concrete tanks; and the dynamic behavior of floor slabs under human activities.
