To facilitate and promote innovation and develop innovative ideas of the faculty community into commercial viable products, The Engineering Technology Incubation Centre (ETIC) of the Faculty of Engineering University of Peradeniya is declared open by The Vice Chancellor Prof. Upul B. Dissanayake on the 30th March 2021.
The University of Peradeniya has been awarded a grant by British Council for the purpose of establishing and strengthening a business incubator to support social innovation among the university students as well as the people of the Central Province. Establishment of this Social Incubation Cell (SIC) for the University of Peradeniya is carried out under the umbrella of Business Linkage, Innovation, Incubation and Technology Transfer Office of the University (BLII-TTO).
Through this project, it is expected to provide formal guidance/mentoring, training, and coordination between relevant agencies on initiating startups after screening the project proposals which are satisfying the requirements of social entrepreneurship. As a first step, A mentoring program on social enterprise for has been scheduled on the 13th and 27th of November 2020. The workshop details are as follows.
This competition is open to students in their final two years of undergraduate studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and/or Business Studies. This competition provides a great opportunity for students to showcase their talents and gain exposure on the global stage. Taking part in the competition is free of charge and selected student teams could also receive an investment of up to $1000 to develop their prototype. If appropriate, the project entry could also be part of student academic work for example a major or final year team project.
