ICIIS

The first Iinternational Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS) was held in 2006 at the University of Peradeniya (UOP), Sri Lanka. From 2007 onward, the conference was held in Sri Lanka and India biannually. The conference has maintained high academic standards from the very first conference of its series. Therefore, the ICIIS has been organized as an IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, USA) conference since 2008. Then onwards, the conference is organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, UOP and the IEEE-SL Central Region Subsection and sponsored by IEEE Sri Lanka Section. It is envisaged that ICIIS will continue to expand its wings and be a pillar in the process of human evolution, by being a major platform for disseminating knowledge.

SCOPE

"Conference scope comprises a wide spectrum of Integrated Engineering sub disciplines, especially belonging to Electrical and Electronics and Computer related areas. ICIIS is a platform for the world leading researchers to present the current research progress in Electrical and Electronic Engineering which are essential in sustainable growth. Over the past years, ICIIS has earned the recognition to facilitate the most versatile forum in South Asia attracting experts from all over the world to disseminate new knowledge and share expertise among researchers and engineers in the academia and the industry."

RECOGNITION

All the accepted and presented papers which comply with IEEE standards and formats are published in the prestigious IEEE Xplore digital library, which is accessed by over 3.5 million researchers, academics, and industrialists worldwide. Over the past years ICIIS has contributed more than 2200 double blind peer reviewed high quality scientific publications to the world and is looking forward to bringing more to the human nation. At present (06/2025), the conference and the proceedings hold an h-index of 38 with more than 9700 citations, according to the Google scholar metrics. It is envisaged that ICIIS will continue to expand its wings and be a pillar in the process of human evolution, by being a major platform for disseminating knowledge.

The ICIIS LOGO

The ICIIS logo reflects the spirit and philosophy of ICIIS, designed by Dr. J.V. Wijayakulasooriya, one of the conference's pioneers. The stylized letter “S” is intentionally shaped to resemble the integration symbol (∫). Metaphorically, this S–integral represents how ICIIS integrates all stakeholders, academia, industry, researchers, policymakers, and students into one continuous and coherent whole. Just as integration in engineering and mathematics combines discrete elements into meaningful outcomes, ICIIS brings together diverse perspectives to generate collective impact. The globe embedded in the design signifies the global reach of industrial and information systems, while also reminding us that the challenges addressed at ICIIS are universal. The abstract human form within the logo subtly reinforces a central truth: engineering exists to uplift human life. Technology, industry, and information systems find their true value only when they serve humanity. The bold contrast of black and white reflects clarity, discipline, and integrity, qualities essential for bridging the long-standing gap between industry and the fascinating world of engineering research through communication (the antenna on letter I). The minimalist strokes suggest efficiency and purpose, echoing the ethos of engineering solutions that are elegant yet powerful. Through this visual language, the logo communicates the core mission of ICIIS: to act as the integrative force that connects ideas to practice, innovation to application, and engineering to human well-being.

HISTORY AND STATISTICS OF ICIIS

The 1st IEEE International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS) was held in 2006 at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. The 2nd IEEE ICIIS was also held at the same venue. From 2007 onward, the conference was held in Sri Lanka and India biannually. The conference has been organized continuously every year, except in 2022, since 2006. In 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025, the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Peradeniya, organized the ICIIIS.

Paper Statistics of the Conference held in Sri Lanka

The quality of the conference is maintained at the highest level by following the strict standards adopted by the well-known international conferences. The rigorous review process for the selection of papers ensures the technical quality of the papers presented at the conference. Every paper must go through a rigorous double blind review process by at least three experts in the field selected from a large team of experts from around the world. The average acceptance rate for the conference is around 55 % which is a good indicator of the quality of the papers presented at the conference.
