Biography
Prof. C. S. Kalpage obtained his B.Sc. (Eng.) Degree in Chemical Engineering with First Class Honours from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, in 1994, and earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, in 2005. He joined the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Peradeniya, in 1998 as a Lecturer (Probationary) and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2005. He became Professor in 2020 and has also served on contract as a Professor at the University of Moratuwa. From 2011 to 2020, he served as Head of the Department, contributing significantly to academic leadership, curriculum development, and infrastructure enhancement.
Prof. Kalpage’s research interests include environmental pollution control, industrial wastewater treatment, bioenergy, and cleaner production technologies. He has been actively involved in developing practical environmental solutions through collaborative projects with international and national agencies such as JICA, the Asian Development Bank, and the Central Environmental Authority. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and more than 50 conference papers. His research has been cited internationally, reflecting his contribution to sustainable environmental engineering in Sri Lanka. He has also served as a consultant on several national and industrial projects, including leachate treatment, zero-liquid discharge systems, and refinery expansion studies.
Prof. Kalpage is a Corporate Member of the Sri Lanka Energy Managers Association (MSLEMA) and an Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (AMIESL). He continues to mentor students and researchers in the fields of environmental engineering and sustainable process development.
