Organized through the Engineering Design Centre (EDC), the programme was conducted over seven consecutive Saturdays from 13 June to 25 July 2026, bringing together practicing engineers from the RDA to enhance their competencies in project planning, scheduling, and project controls.

The programme combined lectures with extensive hands-on computer exercises and real project case studies, enabling participants to develop practical skills in Oracle Primavera P6. Training covered Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) development, Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling, resource and cost loading, baseline management, progress updating, procurement scheduling, delay analysis, and Earned Value Management (EVM), while introducing internationally recognized project management practices aligned with PMBOK® principles.

The sessions were facilitated by Mr. Mahanama Dissanayaka, Eng. Asela Bandara, and Prof. Pujitha Dissanayake, whose industry and academic expertise provided participants with valuable insights into the practical application of project planning and controls in major infrastructure projects.

The programme evaluation indicated an exceptionally high level of participant satisfaction. Participants highly appreciated the relevance of the course content, the practical nature of the sessions, and the expertise of the resource persons. Topics such as Delay Analysis, Procurement Planning, Resource and Cost Loading, Baseline Management, and Earned Value Management were identified as particularly valuable, with many participants noting that the knowledge and skills gained would be directly applicable to planning, monitoring, and controlling road infrastructure projects undertaken by the Road Development Authority. Feedback also highlighted opportunities to further expand future programmes with advanced case studies and specialised modules on delay analysis and project controls.

The programme concluded with a closing ceremony held on 25 July 2026 at the Department of Engineering Management. The ceremony featured reflections from participants, followed by addresses from Prof. Lilantha Samaranayake, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, and Eng. P.N. Miskitha, Engineer of the Training Division, Road Development Authority. Certificates were awarded to all participants in recognition of their successful completion of the programme, followed by the vote of thanks delivered by Mr. S.M. Dissanayaka, Head of the Department of Engineering Management.

The successful completion of this programme further strengthens the longstanding collaboration between the University of Peradeniya and the Road Development Authority in advancing professional engineering practice. The Department of Engineering Management remains committed to delivering high-quality industry-focused capacity development programmes that support excellence in project management, digital project controls, and sustainable infrastructure development.

The Department of Engineering Management, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, successfully concluded a Seven-Day Capacity Development Programme on the Use of Primavera P6 for engineers of the Road Development Authority (RDA).
