explain the pathway to obtaining a patent as to aid the students in uplifting their undergraduate and professional work.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Intended Learning Outcomes: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Differentiate between Civil and Criminal Law.<\/li>\n<li>Examine the conditions under which contracts can be formed and discharged.<\/li>\n<li>Describe law relating to Sale of Goods, Agency and different forms of business organizations.<\/li>\n<li>Analyse the principles of law relating to employment, intellectual property and environment relating to business scenarios.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p><strong>Course Content: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Introduction:  Sources of law; legal system in Sri Lanka; difference between civil and criminal Law; tort of negligence and \u2018duty of care\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Law of Contracts: Essential elements of a contract; conditions and warranties; terms and misrepresentation; essential elements of a contract; conditions and warranties; terms and misrepresentation; discharge of contracts; alternative dispute resolution.<\/li>\n<li>Sale of Goods:  Definition of \u2018goods\u2019; sale of goods ordinance<\/li>\n<li>The Law Relating to Partnerships:  Formalities in establishing a partnership; business names legislation; JVs and partnerships; rights and duties between partners.<\/li>\n<li>Marketing: Segmentation; targeting and positioning; marketing mix.<\/li>\n<li>Company Law: Nature of a company \u2013 \u2018separate legal entity\u2019; lifting the corporate veil; types of companies; company registration; company liquidation.<\/li>\n<li>Intellectual Property:  Types of IP; patents; prior art researches; application for a patent; patent drafting; legal issues of IP.<\/li>\n<li>Law Relating to Employment: Sri Lankan legislation on labour; occupational health and safety &#8211;
