Course Aim

To provide background information on managing technology for sustainable development.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • explain the impact of technology on the economy, society and environment.
  • discuss the role of transferred technology on existing technology.
  • explain the process of technology innovation and evolution.
  • reflect goals of green and appropriate technology in mega projects and at workplaces.
  • apply technology management concepts in developing Sri Lankan Technology.

  • Role and Impact of Technology: Positive and negative impacts of technology on society, economy, and environment; sustainable development.
  • Technology Acquisition and Transfer:Technology as a source of competitive advantage; insourcing and outsourcing; managing core competencies; the role of the transferred technology.
  • Technology and Innovation: Invention and innovation; innovation systems; selection of projects; managing technological assets.
  • Evolution of Technology: Effective utilisation of resources; project externalities; waste and environmental pollution exploitation.
  • Green/Appropriate Technology: Green economics; goals of green and appropriate technology.
  • Group Project: Improvement of Sri Lankan technology for sustainable development.
