The Department of Engineering Management, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, successfully conducted a workshop titled “From Reading to Synthesis: Writing a High-Impact Literature Review” on 13th March 2026. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Nishanka Jayasiri, Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. The session brought together postgraduate research students, particularly those engaged in the NSF-funded project on Transforming Sri Lanka’s Tea Sector, along with students from the Department of Engineering Management.
The workshop focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of the literature review process as a critical component of academic research. Key areas covered included defining the purpose and scope of a literature review, navigating academic databases, selecting appropriate review methodologies, critically evaluating research sources, and developing coherent, analytical writing. Participants were also introduced to citation management tools to effectively organize and manage references.
The interactive session provided practical insights and hands-on guidance, enabling students to enhance their research capabilities. The workshop was contributed significantly to building a strong foundation for producing high-quality scholarly work.
