Department of Engineering Management Launches Primavera P6 Training Programme for Final-Year Civil Engineering Students

May 23, 2025

The Department of Engineering Management at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, has launched a specialized short course on Primavera P6 Project Management Fundamentals in partnership with Oracle Academy. This course gives final-year civil engineering students the necessary project management skills to meet the evolving demands of the industry.

The program officially commenced on May 23, 2025, at the department premises, with an inauguration attended by distinguished guests including Prof. Lilantha Samaranayake, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Kushan Wijesundara, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, and Ms. Neema Madathingal, Program Manager at Oracle Academy, representing Ms. Anuradha Sharma, Head of Oracle Academy, South Asia. Mr. Mahanaama Dissanayaka, Head of the Department of Engineering Management, Academic Staff, and Students, were also present.

In his welcome address, Mr. Dissanayaka highlighted the department’s ongoing dedication to academic excellence and professional preparedness. “Introducing this course at this critical juncture for our students bridges the gap between classroom theory and industry expectations,” He also referenced the department’s fruitful partnership with Oracle Academy, which began in 2018, as pivotal to providing internationally recognized certifications to students.

Prof. Samaranayake praised the initiative as a strategic move to integrate practical project management tools into the engineering curriculum. He stressed the importance of graduates being technically competent and industry-ready and emphasized the importance of mastering project management for their future success.

Ms. Neema Madathingal applauded the University of Peradeniya’s proactive adoption of Oracle’s educational resources. Since the collaboration began, the university has stood out as one of Sri Lanka’s most active institutions, leveraging Oracle Academy’s offerings. She reaffirmed Oracle’s commitment to supporting over 20,000 academic partners worldwide by providing free software, curriculum, and instructor training.

Prof. Kushan Wijesundara highlighted the critical role of academic-industry collaboration in preparing students for real-world challenges. He encouraged students to embrace lifelong learning to stay competitive in a rapidly changing technological landscape.

The Primavera P6 Project Management Fundamentals course provides hands-on experience with one of the construction and engineering industry’s most widely used project management platforms. Students will develop project scheduling, resource allocation, and progress monitoring skills, all aligned with industry best practices. As the course progresses, participants will acquire competencies highly sought after in construction, infrastructure development, and engineering consultancy.

The Department of Engineering Management plans to expand similar professional training opportunities across other disciplines, reaffirming its commitment to cultivating well-rounded, globally competitive graduates prepared to lead in complex engineering environments.
