On successful completion of the course, the students should be able to;<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Explain the sanitation related public health and assess the associated risk of environmental health issues for any related microbiological or chemical hazards in water.<\/li>\n
  2. Devise control measures against microbiological hazards to minimize impacts on public health, using tools like Quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA)<\/li>\n
  3. Plan appropriate water management systems by identifying relevant engineering control measures to combat against a given level of health risk<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

  1. Introduction to water supply and sanitation :<\/a> Global Health, Global burden of disease<\/li>\n
  2. Disease outbreaks : <\/a>Public health and hygiene, history of waterborne diseases, microbiology of drinking water, transmission routes of waterborne pathogens<\/li>\n
  3. Identify hazards and hazardous events and assess the risks : <\/a>Microbiological risk, quantitative microbiological risk assessment, predictive microbiology<\/li>\n
  4. Onsite and offsite sanitary treatment methods : <\/a>Special emphasis on low cost and appropriate technologies suited to developing world, risk tradeoffs<\/li>\n
  5. Microbial source tracking : <\/a>Coliform bacteria detection techniques in water<\/li>\n
  6. Water safety plans (WSP) and sanitation safety planning (SSP)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n
