On successful completion of the course, the students should be able to;<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Describe principles and processes necessary to effectively manage water resources through well designed drainage and irrigation systems.<\/li>\n
  2. Apply appropriate techniques and analyses for the selection of low cost irrigation methods.<\/li>\n
  3. Evaluate and choose water delivery system including the preparation of irrigation water schedules.<\/li>\n
  4. Carry out preliminary designs for both irrigation and drainage systems in agricultural fields.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

  1. Planning of irrigation and drainage development :<\/a> Project identification, feasibility studies, implementation and operation, intensification of existing irrigation systems, participatory development, sustainability<\/li>\n
  2. Water requirements\/Delivery systems : <\/a>Crop water requirements, irrigation water requirement, leaching requirements, land preparation<\/li>\n
  3. Continuous system, Rotational system, Supply and demand<\/li>\n
  4. Methods of irrigation :<\/a> Surface irrigation, sub-surface irrigation, overhead and drip irrigation<\/li>\n
  5. Irrigation structures: <\/a>Design, operational and maintenance aspects of irrigation structures<\/li>\n
  6. Irrigation water management :<\/a> Yield response to water, irrigation scheduling techniques<\/li>\n
  7. Introduction to computer applications : <\/a>Cropwat, WEAP<\/li>\n
