<strong>explain <\/strong>the purposes of different types of hydraulic structures and <strong>recommend <\/strong>appropriate structures for a given application based on technical, economic and environmental feasibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u27a2&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong>conduct <\/strong>hydraulic analysis and <strong>design <\/strong>appropriate structural components of hydraulic structures.<\/p>\n<p>\u27a2&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong>appraise <\/strong>the safety and sustainable aspects of hydraulic structures.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"9\" width=\"864\">\n<p><strong>Course Content:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u27a2&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong>Dams and outlet works: <\/strong>Loads on dams, dam types and their components, dam site selection, environmental impacts, design flood, spillways, intake structures, sluices, gates and valves, fish passes, energy dissipators, dam instrumentation, dam monitoring and safety, reservoir sedimentation and sediment management, dam strengthening, village tanks in Sri Lanka, rehabilitation of village tanks, radial gate design, earth dam design, ogee spillway profile design, stilling basin design.<\/p>\n<p>\u27a2&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong>Diversion and water conveyance structures: <\/strong>Types of water conveyance systems (tunnels, canals, flumes, pipes) and their components, cross drainage structures (siphons, aqueducts, level crossings), design of flow measuring structures, design of transitions and drop structures, irrigation distribution systems, design of turn-outs and distribution canals.<\/p>\n<p>\u27a2&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
