At present 455 students are admitted to read for the degree of the Bachelor of the Science of Engineering Honors (BScEngHons) program at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The minimum requirements are three passes at the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE\/AL) examination in the following subjects:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Combined Mathematics<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Physics<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chemistry.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The selection of students to the faculty is done by the University Grants Commission (UGC) based on the merit order of the average Z-score obtained by candidates at the GCE\/AL examination and district quota system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Degree Program<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Bachelor of the Science of Engineering Honors (BScEngHons) program at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya shall be of four academic years\u2019 duration in eight semesters or equivalent.\u00a0 From the E22 batch (i.e. those who enter based on the results of the GCE Advanced Level in year 2022) onwards will follow the first semester as a common semester and seven semesters or equivalent in the field of specialization and an Industrial Training course of total duration not less than 24 weeks.\u00a0 The fields of specializations are<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chemical &amp; Process Engineering<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Civil Engineering<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Computer Engineering<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Electrical and Electronic Engineering<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mechanical Engineering<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Each semester of the Degree Program shall typically be 14 weeks in duration. \u00a0\u00a0The Degree Program may be preceded by a Foundation Program of 6-10 weeks\u2019 duration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Course Durations<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">One course credit is equivalent to 15 hours of lectures. An hour of tutorial work, demonstrations, small-group discussions, or two hours of practical classes or in-class assignments is equivalent to one lecture hour. The number of credits assigned to each course is in accordance with the total number of equivalent lecture hours associated with the course.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Following the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF), for lectures, tutorials, demonstrations, practical classes, in-class assignments, small-group discussions and field studies work, one credit (the measure of volume of learning) corresponds to 50 notional learning hours (including the 15 hours above) and in the case of industrial training, research project, and workplace-based learning (in suitable settings) one credit is equivalent to a minimum of 100 notional hours.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The nominal number of credits per semester is 18 and that of a short semester is 9.\u00a0 The corresponding maximum credits are 24 and 12 respectively.\u00a0 The courses are divided into Core Courses and Elective Courses.\u00a0 The Elective Courses are further divided into Technical Elective (TE) Courses and General Elective (GE) Courses.\u00a0 To claim the degree, one must earn 150 credits where the credit composition under each specialization is given in the student handbook.\u00a0 The nominal duration of the degree program is 4 years whereas the maximum duration to complete the degree program is 8 years.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Undergraduate Admission Admission to the Faculty of Engineering is subjected to the government policy on the university admission.
