"Collision probability scheme for an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) in the presence of moving obstacles "

Aim:To provide the required knowledge and skills in developing control algorithms, designing and fabricating Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) and implementing proposed algorithms in avoiding multiple obstacles.

Objectives:Mathematically model an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) and implement an efficient control algorithm to the UGV for easy maneuver.

  • Propose method to calculate the collision probability of moving obstacles.
  • Test and verify the accuracy of proposed collision probability scheme for a moving obstacle in a simulated environment.

  • Description:Engineers have introduced many algorithms for Unmanned Ground Vehicles in order to drive them autonomously via the environments which are congested with moving objects. Ultimate purpose of this is to minimize the traffic accidents when using them in real world transportation. However, not many have introduced efficient paradigms to calculate the collision probabilities of such accidents which finally provides an assurance to the passengers. Therefore, this research project intends to introduce a novel scheme to calculate the collision probability of such vehicles in the presence of moving obstacles. During the first stage, student should propose a scheme to calculate the collision probabilities and model them in a simulated environment. In the second stage student should fabricate a UGV in order to validate the proposed collision probability scheme.



    "Vibration analysis during end milling of Aluminum "

    Aim:To compare the vibration effects during milling of mild steel and Al at different speeds.

    Objectives:

  • Literature review on vibration during milling.
  • Design of experiment for vibration measurement for Al
  • Carryout the Experiment, collect data and analysis, comparison with mild steel, results & recommendations
  • Description:It is required to do a literature survey on vibration analysis of materials during milling. The results obtained for machining mild steel by E/13 students’ group should be studied and an experiment has to be designed for measuring vibration of Al, using the accelerometer. The vibration data should be analyzed and the effect of cutting parameters on vibration has to be discussed. Then a comparison of results with results obtained for Mild steel has to be done.



    "Permanent mould design for casting a brass product "

    Aim:To design a permanent mould to produce a Brass product using casting for quality improvement.

    Objectives:

  • Study the manufacturing process of brass products in the industry.
  • Select a brass product and design a permanent mould for casting the product.
  • To manufacture the mould of the product and testing the mould, analyze the quality of the product.
  • Description:It is required to study the brass product manufacturing using literature and observing the brass industry. Student has to select a brass product manufactured using a sand casting, where the surface quality is mandatory. Then a permanent mould has to be designed and fabricated for the product. The product will be produced and the quality improvement of the product compared to the traditional method has to be discussed.



    "Quality improvement of spinning operation "

    Aim: To improve the quality of the cup produced during GP113 practical by controlling the parameters.

    Objectives:

  • Literature review on spinning of Al products
  • Study the practical for spinning conducted for GP113 and collect samples from the practicals
  • Check the quality of the product and identify quality parameters, measurements of those parameters and analysis.
  • Design of experiments for this operation to control different quality parameters to improve quality, Results and recommendations for improvement
  • Description:A practical is conducted for first years in GP113 for spinning. The quality of the product depends on many parameters. First it is required to do a literature survey on spinning of Al products and study the above process and observe the products and the process. The quality parameters have to be measured and a pareto analysis could be used to identify the frequency of defects. Controlling the parameters, the quality of the product has to be improved in a systematic way.



    "Digital simulation of CNC machine - Requirements: Computer programming Python or C ++, CAD-SolidWorks "

    Aim: To provide students an opportunity to study and perform digital simulation of CNC machine on a remote computer terminal.

    Objectives:

  • Operate a CNC machine with a micro controller; collect the essential data to simulate the CNC on a remote terminal.
  • Perform 3D simulation on a remote terminal.
  • Study the possible errors of the project and propose how to overcome those problems.
  • Description:The digital simulation of machines is one of the important aspects of current smart manufacturing environment. This gives a real time digital simulation of a machine on a remote computer terminal. To integrate the physical world and information world this technology is used in the industry. This is a complete virtual prototype of the machine with one to one mapping.



    "Remote control of CNC machine over the internet "

    Aim: To provide student an opportunity to study and develop an IOT application to control CNC machine remotely

    Objectives:

  • Operate a CNC machine with a microcontroller locally
  • Develop an IOT application to operate CNC machine over the internet.
  • Study the possible errors of the project and propose how to overcome those problems.
  • Description:Monitoring and controlling of shop floor machines is important in today’s smart manufacturing environment. Real time machine data will be transmitted through the internet to monitor current condition of the machine. At the same time machine controlling commands can be send through a network to control the machines.
