Course Aim(s): To provide background information on managing technology for sustainable development.

Intended Learning Outcomes:
On completion of the course, students should be able to:

      explain the impact of technology on the economy, society and environment.

      discuss the role of transferred technology on existing technology.

      explain the process of technology innovation and evolution.

      reflect goals of green and appropriate technology in mega projects and at workplaces.

      apply technology management concepts in developing Sri Lankan Technology.

      Role/Impact of Technology: Positive and negative impacts of technology on society, economy, and environment; sustainable development.

      Technology Acquisition and Transfer: Technology as a source of competitive advantage; insourcing and outsourcing; managing core competencies; the role of the transferred technology.

      Technology and Innovation: Invention and innovation; innovation systems; selection of projects; managing technological assets.

      Evolution of Technology: Effective utilisation of resources; project externalities; waste and environmental pollution exploitation.

      Green/ Appropriate Technology: Green economics; goals of green and appropriate technology.

      Group Project: Improvement of Sri Lankan technology for sustainable development.
