Course Aim(s): To provide background information on managing technology for sustainable development.
Intended Learning Outcomes: ➢ explain the impact of technology on the economy, society and environment. ➢ discuss the role of transferred technology on existing technology. ➢ explain the process of technology innovation and evolution. ➢ reflect goals of green and appropriate technology in mega projects and at workplaces. ➢ apply technology management concepts in developing Sri Lankan Technology. |

Course Content: (Only main topics & subtopics) ➢ Role/Impact of Technology: Positive and negative impacts of technology on society, economy, and environment; sustainable development. ➢ Technology Acquisition and Transfer: Technology as a source of competitive advantage; insourcing and outsourcing; managing core competencies; the role of the transferred technology. ➢ Technology and Innovation: Invention and innovation; innovation systems; selection of projects; managing technological assets. ➢ Evolution of Technology: Effective utilisation of resources; project externalities; waste and environmental pollution exploitation. ➢ Green/ Appropriate Technology: Green economics; goals of green and appropriate technology. ➢ Group Project: Improvement of Sri Lankan technology for sustainable development. |
