H. M. V. R. Herath received the B.Sc. degree (Hons.) in electrical and electronic engineering with 1st class honours from the University of Peradeniya, Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, in 1998, the M.Sc. degree in electrical and computer engineering with the award of academic merit from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL, USA, in 2002, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Paderborn, Paderborn, Germany, in 2009. In 2009, he joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Peradeniya, as a Senior Lecturer. His research interests include hyperspectral imaging for remote sensing, multispectral imaging for good quality assessment, coherent optical communications and integrated electronics. Dr. Herath was a member of one of the teams that for the first time successfully demonstrated coherent optical transmission with QPSK and polarization multiplexing. He is currently a member of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka and The Optical Society. He was a recipient of the Sri Lanka President’s Award for Scientific Research in 2013. He received the Paper Award in the International Conference on Advances in ICT for Emerging Regions (ICTer) 2017 Conference held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
