Dr. Himal A. Suraweera is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Between January 2011 and May 2013, he was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate the Singapore University of Technology and Design, Singapore. Between July 2009 and January 2011, he was with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore, Singapore as a Research Fellow. Between February 2007 and June 2009, he worked at Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia as a research fellow. From June 2004 to October 2007, he was a PhD student and from November 2006 to January 2007 as a Research Assistant at the Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering at the Monash University.
His research interests are in the area of wireless communications and communication theory, in particular, relay networks, energy harvesting/Green communications, full-duplex, physical layer security, cognitive radio and MIMO systems.
Dr. Suraweera’s academic achievements include receiving the IEEE ComSoc Asia-Pacific Outstanding Young Researcher Award in 2011. He also currently serves on the Editorial Board of IEEE COMMUNICATIONS LETTERS. He has served as a Technical Program Committee member for various conferences, including IEEE ICC, IEEE GLOBECOM, IEEE WCNC, IEEE VTC Spring/Fall and IEEE PIMRC. He received an IEEE COMMUNICATIONS LETTERS exemplary reviewer certificate for 2009 and an IEEE WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS LETTERS exemplary reviewer certificate for 2012. Dr. Suraweera is a member of the IEEE.
